Lapidary is the art of cutting and polishing rocks, minerals and fossils. The Katy Rock Lab provides the opportunity to learn lapidary skills safely and to buy a subscription to use designated tools during regular business hours.
If you are 13 years or older, you can learn how to use the

- Trim Saw,
- Slab Saw,
- Reciprocating flat lap (polisher)
This combination of tools will allow you to explore and learn a new hobby; while proving a outlet to let your creative juices flow. Imagine, design, cut and polish whatever you chose at the Katy Rock Shop!
Katy Rock Lab Services
Do you have a rock you always wanted to cut or polished, but just couldn’t be bothered? Take a photo of your rock, text it to 832-437-4733 to get it assessed for work. Mark on your rock where you desire the cut lines to be. If your out of town, please confirm ahead your scope of work and if your work is approved, mail your rock to 821 Avenue C. Katy Tx 77493. We can cut or polish it for you!
The Katy Rock Lab can work with rocks up to 12” inches in diameter. Don’t forget to mark your rock where you want the cut prior to dropping it off.
We also offer geode cutting and popping! Crack a rock on your own, or wait for a perfect cut on our slab saw! Come on by Katy Rock Shop today, and get your specimens cut and ready for show and tell!
